Zwift reads custom workouts from .zwo files. Drop the file into the right folder and it appears in game, on every device.
Zwift's built-in workouts are great, but you can ride any structured session in Zwift if you have it as a .zwo file. Every workout in our library has a ZWO download. Here is how to add it.
On a Mac
- Download the .zwo file.
- Open Finder and go to Documents › Zwift › Workouts.
- Open the folder with a long number as its name. That number is your Zwift ID.
- Paste the .zwo file into that folder.
- Restart Zwift.
On a Windows PC
- Download the .zwo file.
- Find the Z icon of the Zwift launcher in the taskbar's notification area; click the small up arrow if the icon is hidden.
- Right-click it and choose Open Logs Folder.
- Go up one level to the Zwift folder and open Workouts, then your numeric Zwift ID folder.
- Paste the file there and restart Zwift.
Finding the workout in Zwift
Open the workouts menu and look in the Custom section. Imported workouts appear there after the restart, and from that point they are available on all your devices, including iPad, iPhone and Apple TV, as long as the file is not larger than 64 KB. Larger files stay on the computer you imported them on. All our workout files are far below that limit.
No computer? Build or link it
- Build it in Zwift. Go to Workouts › Custom › Create Workout and recreate the intervals from the table on our workout page. Zwift allows up to 250 blocks per workout.
- Link a calendar. If you plan in TrainingPeaks, connect it to Zwift and the structured workout scheduled for today appears automatically. See how to get our workouts into TrainingPeaks.
Good to know
| Question | Answer |
| Do targets follow my FTP? | Yes. ZWO files store power as a share of FTP, so Zwift uses your current FTP. |
| Can I edit the workout? | Yes. Select it in the Custom section and copy it to make your own version. |
| Why is the workout missing on my iPad? | Restart Zwift on the computer and on the iPad after importing, and check that the file is under 64 KB. |
Tip: special characters in workout names can cause sync problems, so keep names simple.
